Overview

Solairus Aviation is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Payroll Manager to oversee and manage the integrity of payroll processing across all 50 states. This role ensures employees are paid accurately and on time, manages payroll audits, supports tax compliance, and leads payroll operations in collaboration with our HR and Corporate Accounting teams. The Payroll Manager will serve as the subject matter expert on payroll processes and systems, providing strategic oversight and hands-on administration.

Essential Responsibilities/Duties

  • Oversee and manage end-to-end payroll processing for employees in all 50 states, including hourly, salaried, and per diem payrolls.
  • Direct accurate collection, calculation, entry, and reconciliation of payroll data, including earnings, deductions, garnishments, and adjustments.
  • Maintain and update employee payroll records, including new hires, terminations, transfers, wage changes, and department/tail allocations.
  • Supervise and manage non-exempt timekeeping systems to ensure accuracy in reported hours and compliance with company policy.
  • Ensure the accurate and timely issuance of paychecks and direct deposits by overseeing payroll production.
  • Manage new hire and wage notice processing to ensure timely compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Prepare and distribute comprehensive payroll reports on a weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual basis, including gross pay, tax/benefit deductions, hours worked, and PTO accruals.
  • Oversee all federal and state tax filings, working closely with the HRIS third-party provider Paycom to ensure accuracy and timeliness.
  • Lead payroll audits and oversee compliance with all federal, state, and local reporting obligations.
  • Maintain secure, accurate payroll records and ensure adherence to legal and company data retention policies.
  • Interpret and enforce federal, state, and local payroll laws and regulations; advise management on legislative changes and necessary policy updates.
  • Oversee the resolution of payroll-related inquiries from employees and departments, providing timely and professional support.
  • Lead or contribute to special projects related to compensation, benefits, system implementations, or payroll process improvements.
  • Stay current on industry trends, legislative updates, and best practices through ongoing professional development, including workshops, publications, and professional networking.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Human Resources, or related field preferred.
  • Minimum 3–5 years of payroll experience, including 2+ years in a supervisory or lead role.
  • Proficient in payroll software (e.g. Paycom, ADP) and Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, formulas, and data analysis).
  • Solid understanding of payroll regulations, employment law, and tax compliance across all 50 States.
  • Strong math, organizational skills, attention to detail, and problem-solving ability.
  • Excellent communication skills with ability to work cross-functionally with HR and Finance teams.
  • Ability to manage sensitive data with a high degree of confidentiality and professionalism.
